I have been diagnosed with agoraphobia along with 'panic disorder'. It has been years since I have received counseling but have pretty much lived a lifestyle that helps me avoid situations that trigger my fears. I moved to a fairly small community - less than 20,000 people and live in a suburb... my business is homebased and I rarely have to meet my clients (I love information technology for this reason). I entertain at home and have a great deal of enjoyment with solitude. Even my fiance, who is 22 years younger than me is comfortable with our life. He works construction and loves to come home and settle into our home projects and spend time mostly just with me. We get out occassionally to quiet romantic restaurants, even do a little karaoke at a corner bar, and play a dart game or shoot pool. It helps me a great deal having someone in my life that does not push me to be more daring and does not make me feel badly about my fears. The main thing is not going to large events such as concerts or even movie theaters... museums, bookstores, walks in the park... stuff like that is really cool. Even when I shop I choose days and times that there is little activity and I am in and out quickly. I think I have been very fortunate to have such control over my life. I look at my phobia as a blessing because it has helped keep a lot of calm and order in my life and does not stop me from being productive.

That depends on which shrink you talk to.. I'm more scoiophobic in my estimation (and I'm way more intelligent than Psychologists) I'm not afraid of the outdoors.. as long as humans arent in them.. nor am I really afraid of people to tell the truth (hardly).. but It taxes my personality not to terminate people in general they irritate me that much.. so I deal with em as little as I need to ..

Does that answer yer question? Oh thats not the answer you wanted huh?
