I currently work at a salon in Orange County, California. One of my clients currently has MS. Over the years, her health has declined greatly. She now can only move around by using an electric wheel chair. Her doctor has already told her to have her steering wheel equipped so that she can drive with that. Her feet barely work at all anymore. She has yet to do so (it has been a year), but she continues to tell the doctor that she is going to the lessons to have the special equipment installed. Her daughters are so concerned that they hired a fulltime driver for her, but she purposely chased the person away because she insists on driving. Her car is COVERED in dents. She even drove through the storefront of her drycleaners. She drove through the french doors of her home. I know that if she continues this way, not only will she kill herself, but probably an innocent bystander as well. Please, I need to know how to have her CA driver's license revoked by the DMV.

I would not feel badly at all for reporting her. However, only a physician can report it to the DMV for them to revoke someone's license. Not just anyone can do it. I think that she has been lucky so far and no one has called the police on her. So I don't think any police reports have been filed. She has money, so I wouldn't be surprised if she paid off a few people here and there. I'm hoping that she has a minor fender bender in our parking lot because then I could call the police on her.

While a report from a doctor or police officer is more likely to result in a re-examination, anybody can contact the DMV and tell of concerns regarding a driver. The DMV does not have to, but can order a re-examination. A letter from her daughters would probably carry more weight than from an acquaintance.

You Client can have her license suspended/revoked by the DMV another way besides by her Dr. If she has been involved in an accident such as when she crashed into a building. If a citizens calls into the police department to report that she is driving erratic. An officer can stop and evalute her status. Status meaning some impairment physical or mental in nature coupled with the observed erratic driving or accident that would prevent her from operating a vehicle safely. The officer may take action by completing a California DMV form,"Request for Priority Re-Exam Form." This form must be filled out on scene which includes a brief synopsis of th incident and description of the driver. The driver must be given a copy of the form and directed to contact a local DMV safety office for further evaluation by the DMV safety officer. This contact must be made in approx. 10 days. If the driver fails to do so his or her license will be suspended. The results of the madatory contact with the safety officer may include an evaluation by the drivers DR. and subsequent follow-up. During this process the drivers license may be suspended until a Dr. gives the OK for the driver. Unfortunantley for the driver he / or she may not get her license back due to her phisical or mental limitations. The good thing is that this may prevent an accident where you, I and your client may be a little safer from injury or an accident caused by the impaired driver. Please understand that this situation does not include a driver impaired in relation to a DUI. So my advice is, if you see your client driving in an erratic manner please report it to the police. I know you may feel bad but you may save a life.

After those kind of accidents her license is probably already revoked, could she be driving without a license? if that is the case there is nothing you can do, except hope that you aren't on the road when she gets into a bad accident. I mean if she is so against having other people help her, and her family isn't taking away her car then honestly there is little that you can do.

Contact the DMV, I'm sure they can help you out. Or tell her Dr. that she hasn't done what she's supposed to do. If this makes you feel bad for turning her in, then think how bad you would feel if you didn't and somebody got killed. Thank you for your concern also.

Talk to the local police and tell them.
If she's done that much property damage she should be taken off the streets before she kills someone.
