by diversity i mean is the atmoshphere seem seem open to people of different races, religion, etc. Is it eclectic or is everyone square and predictable.

I don't believe they are far enough apart (geographically) to be very different to one another.
I think both states have a lot going for them.
Similar climates, coastal regions, cities, National Parks and lovely country towns.
NC has a much larger population so maybe there is diversity there in the demographics.

Define diversity. Do you mean that the spread of per capita income is wider in one state than the next? Or we could talk about how many people of which race or nationality live in which state...

I live in NC and I think it is. It has mountains (where I live), piedmont region, beaches, big cities as well as small towns. SC doesn't have the mountains, but it has better beaches.

The gene pool in both those states is more shallow than an inflatable baby pool.
