I think he's a decent actor at best...who has had the good fortune to find a couple of solid castings lately. In "A History of Violence," he plays a guy who, for reasons that are made abundantly clear in the film, doesn't have a lot to say. This suits Mortenson perfectly, because he has no vocal command whatsoever. If he can get by with whispers, he's on solid ground.

Indeed, HOV was a terrific, well-thought out movie with just the right amount of twists, turns, dry humour, gore, and gratuitous nudity. I'm also a William Hurt and Maria Bello fan so it was like a triple treat!

The opening diner scene was awesome. Very gritty and hardcore violence - especially when one remembers the cheesy, ripped abs and sculpted buns days Jean Calude Van Damme movies. *shudder*

Viggo isn't exactly a chameleon, whatever role he's in you know it's Viggo and it always has his fingerprints all over it. However, that's what we appreciate so much from him, I think.

About the only scene I didn't like was near the end, when Mario Bello starts crying as the police officer is questioning her. She sounds fake, looks fake, like it's all an act just to get Deputy Dawg there out of their house. But then he leaves and she really IS crying. She seems to angry at that point in the film for tears. It contradicted her fiery nature.

Remember Viggo as the wheelchair-bound snitch in Carlito's Way?

"Look at me, man, I got diapers! I gotta wear f***ing diapers!"
