Beta means that the certain program or service in question is in a developmental stage, and may have some bugs. It basically means "You can use this, but it's not done yet".

Think of "Beta" as cookie dough. It's still delicious and you can still eat it, but it's not done yet.

Lol,

Beta is like a testing kind of phase

"windows vista beta version" would be a windows version of vista that isnt complete yet, and it requires customer feedback to finish it. Pretty much they use the feedback to fix problems.

Theres also Alpha testing, etc..

Beta simply means trial version. It is available for trial but if any problem occurs, that is not taken care of and you may need to send a feedback for that to the developement org. Beta is generally free version of any software or application which runs for a limited time period.

as like Yahoo Mail Beta, beta means the testing of a program to any clients(of course it is free). this will test what the client want and hate in one program. if the beta is finish maybe the price will apply to one software(depends on manufacturer).

Beta is the second letter of the Greek alpabet, but also used to measure the volitility of investments.

beta is just another phrase for "users who can test the new version and bring back feedback"
