I remember at my high school, the advance english class and normal english class were practically the same. What you can do though is try out the advance class, if it's too difficult or you don't like it, you can change into a regular class before 3 weeks into the school year. Or, you can also talk to your language arts teacher you have right now and see what she recomends for you. Tell your mom you're willing to try it, and give it your best, but if it's not for you, its not for you.
Good luck and enjoy high school!

If you tried harder could you pass the advanced class? I had the same problem with my son. His teacher and I agreed that he could handle the advanced math, but he didn't want to put the extra work into it, so I let him go back to the regular class. You and your mom are both right. It is better for your college resume to have the advanced classes, and could help you get a scholarship, but if you aren't going to pass it, it won't look very good. If it's just laziness, you need to be aware that college will make the rest of your life easier. Otherwise, go ahead and have that talk with your mom. She's going to be dissappointed, but that's only because she wants a better life for you. You should at least try the advanced class before you give up on it, though. Why don't you give it a month, and if you find that you really can't handle it, you can transfer back to the regular class. Advanced LA isn't that hard. I aced it with very little effort. It's more essays and creative writing, but really it isn't hard. Good luck, either way.

If you're that uncomfortable, you should ask a counsellor to see what are your options if you see that you are not doing as well as you could be in a normal class. But I'd say give it a shot. What's the worse that could happen??? A's and B's are good. You'd be amazed how many people get by with just C's and are just fine with it. There was a time in which I believed that I wasn't smart enough to take an advantage class (it was math) but I was lucky enough that my teacher pushed me to believe in myself.

Also, I wouldn't believe your mother about the whole ending up with a McDonald's job thing. My mother used to threaten me with stuff like that all the time. Some how by having a messy room at the age of 14, she could predict my future and tried to convince me that my unorganization will only get me a fast food job for the rest of my life. I'm sure you don't and I know it's hard to ignore such remarks but, you gotta do what you gotta do.

If you want to and if you could transfer to the regular class if you are not doing so well, you could inform your mother about it and try to come across as,"I'm gonna try my best, but if this doesn't work, I can transfer to the regular class so that my GPA wouldn't be affected." kinda thing.

It depends. If you are passionate about language arts then you would probably learn more in an advanced class. Also, if you are planning on going straight to a university after high school (as opposed to a community college, military, working, etc.) then I highly recommend taking it. Universities like to see that you are giving yourself a challenge, so it boosts your chance of acceptance.

And if you're worried about the grade, many of my AP teachers say that a C in an advanced class is better than an A in a regular class. So unless you truly are failing the class and see absolutely no light at the end of the tunnell, have a little faith in yourself and stick to the advanced class. :)

ive gone through something EXACTLY like this. im with ya girl, sometimes parents expectations can be hurrendous. id say try it for a week or two, then you'll be able to go to your mom (if u still feel this way) and tell her that you have tried it and really want a less stressful class. giving it a try will show her that your willing to experience and try things she suggests. if its not comfortable then just tell her how u feel.

Well, all you can do is your best. If your teacher is worth a darn they will recommend you transfer back to a regular class if you're unable to keep up.
