I sent my uncle a Christmas card. Now, two 1/2 months later, he sent me a birthday card. However, I have not spoken/seen him in 10 years. When my grandmother died, my mother and her two brothers (one being the uncle I just made contact with) had a nasty fight over money, the estate, etc.

Do I ask him if we can visit together this week, or is it too soon because I have not heard from him in so long except this past week? I sent him an email, but he did not respond yet. So I was going to call him tomorrow. What do you think. I just don't want to blow a second chance of having a relationship with my mom's side of the family again.

Too soon. Take it slow, keep sending holiday cards and friendly e mails once in awhile. The rare phonecall. Go slow.

Sending a email is great if you know for sure he has a computer still .If you havent been in touch he might not have one now.I would say (i am no expert) to write to him.Put down that you would like to see him,or just have contact till hes ready to see you-This way you are not putting to much pressure on him to respond, and he can do it in his own good time. You didnt say how your family feel about you contacting him,Is it going to be difficult for him and yourself?Take your time dont rush him and see what happens.I have had the same thing happen in my family ,its not nice when another member of the family have arguments and it effects you is it

call him! don't lose the chance. He's family and I'm sure he'll be more than glad to hear from you again. Sometimes we lose contact with the people with love due to certain circumstances. But im sure he won't question about why you haven't kept in touch or anything of the sort. So go ahead!

i think you should call him , just b/c your mom wants nothing to do with that side of the family doesn't mean you can't have a relationship with your uncle and if she gets mad b/c of it , she'll eventually get over it, after all you are her child, a mother can only stay mad for so long before she starts missing her babies. whether you're grow or not .

Give him a call. Just because your mother is fighting with him doesn't mean you can't have a relationship with him. I think him sending you the card is a gesture that he would like a relationship with you too.

Good luck!

If you are mad at your friend do you kick your dog? Why should you hate someone just because someone else does.
Maybe you can be the bridge that connects the two.

Do it. You never know if he might be waiting for you to call on the phone or go in person. Do it! You will not regret it.
