For one, they are way too busy to sit at the computer and read e-mails all day...and even if they weren't they would never be able to respond to the massive amounts of e-mails they would receive...

Ever heard of internet stalking? If a stalker knows a celebrity's e-mail, he/she can send threatening messages to the celebrity.
There's also the matter of crazed fans writing e-mails to their favorite celebrities every chance they get, and if they don't get a response, they might go nuts. Remember Eminem's Stan? That could happen. There are a lot of crazy people out there.
If you were a celebrity, would you give out your e-mail to the public? Most likely not because it's one of the few private things that you have left.
