...we might see a big effect on preventing people from becoming obese and unhealthy. American-size? That's what other countries' call portions that are out of proportion. If other countries can survive with smaller portions, why can't America? So do you think that we should make a proactive move to downsize the good ol' American-size? Do you think this is a worthwhile idea or not?

Yes. I am amazed how big the food servings are. I always ask for them to serve me half the food now and i take the rest home to eat the next day or whatever. However it really should be up the person. they need to learn to control their own eating healthy habits.

I say it is a waste of time. People will just have two portions. It will not stop most people from overeating. My opinion on obesity that is caused by this reason ( I am excluding obesity related to medical problems or illness) is this: Leave them alone. The last thing they need is the general public telling them what to do with their bodies. They know that their eating habits are not healthy, yet they choose to do it anyway. Making portions smaller or hounding them to lose weight will not make them want to do it. The decision to lose weight is one they have to make for themselves when the time is right for them to do it. Besides, some people are happy with themselves as they are. If their extra weight doesn't bother them, then why should it bother anyone else? They are not the people who have to carry it around, Shop for clothes, or look at themselves in the mirror. So they need to worry about themselves and leave everyone else alone.
