Why do studies show that, among homosexuals, a lack of bonding with the same sex parent is prevalent?

It could be that the 'role model' the same sex parent presents to the homosexual mind is not compatible with their thinking. In other words, if you are gay, but your 'father' figure is straight, their 'effectiveness' is lessened because their method of raising will be more likely to assume heterosexual tendencies in their son. Since the homosexual child will eventually want/need to learn how to be socialble/sexual to others of their own gender, a heterosexual parent won't understand their behavior and will try to correct it.

Since children understand their parents to be 'grown-up' versions of themselves, homosexual children fail to identify with the parent most like their gender. It probably means that they will 'bond' with a parent of the opposite gender, since they are both 'attracted' to the same kind of people (a gay son will find more 'in common' with a straight mother, who is attracted to men normally, than a straight father, who is attracted to women normally.) Or, it could mean that, due to such miscommunication, they will be more 'receptive' to homosexual nurturing when they do date (being attracted to older parent figures, in order to 'learn' how to deal with their tendencies that they never received growing up.)
