This is not normal.
unless difficulties are occurring or the doctor feels something may go wrong-there really is no need to be induced on her due date. Most doctor's let you go a max of 10 days past your due date then induce. So this is kind of strange i would be asking my sister to get a second opinion on this.

I have had 2 induced pregnancies. The first one, my doctor advised it because if the baby got any bigger, I would have to had a c-section. That was the last thing I wanted. My second induced labor was by my own decision. It was more convenient for my husband with work, to have a scheduled birth.

Alot of doctors like to work their patients in around their busy schedule. She should be fine since it's right around her due date. My doctor did this with me, and at first I was worried that it was the wrong choice, but I ended up going into labor the morning I went in to be induced. So I would've had the baby that day anyway! We just sped it up a little. Everything went great, no problems at all. And it insured me getting my own doctor instead of her being busy or out of town and having to get another doctor.

My cousin induced because the baby was due on the 15 of April. I am born on the `13th and my sister is born on the 17th. She did not want to accidentally have the baby on either of our birthdays. I was induced the day before my due date because my due date was my parents anniversary and I did not want my baby born on that day. They are divorced and HATE each other. You can give your doctor any reason you want and most will induce any day on or after your due date.

If there were no health problems... maybe the doctor is trying to make it more convenient for him/her. I hate when doctors interfere with mother-nature. Tell her to say NO. An induction means a harder labor, an epidural, intervention after intervention and an increased chance of a c-section. If there is no reason to induce... tell her not to.

Maybe the doctor is going to be going away, and wants to ensure that he is there for her. I personaly wouldnt want to be enduced unless it was a medical emergency. The baby will come when it is ready to come, and I dont think a doctor should be deciding that without seeing if it will come on its own. Induction can be very painful, and the contractions are way worse.

why dont you ask your sister? or ask her doctor.
there are 10000000 of reasons. some ob's are extremely busy..and oh gosh.. like to be at their patients childs birth. What a bad thing. Some docs watch pregancy carefully.. and do thier jobs to ensure healthy baby and mommy.

if your sister has no problemwith it..what do you care. go help her through the birth and enjoy the new family memeber.

sweetie it could be a number of things and some very personal ones that sis may not want to share with family or friends. The baby could be to large, her pelvic may be to small, she may have an STD that the baby could contract coming through the birth canal. Best wishes

This is the best way a doctor can control his life - by scheduling her induction, he is guaranteeing a baby that day instead of not truly knowing when it is going to come. Most doctors do this now. I personally think it is unnatural, but I guess doctors have to have a life too............

It's not healthy for the baby to go over the due date. Sounds like a good doctor that is being cautious. Induction is ok and your sis will be fine!
