I think an execution should look like an execution, not surgery. Part of the punishment should be fearing the execution process. That is how it used to be. But, with lethal injection there is nothing to fear. It is like a relief. I think they should bring back the harsher methods.

Yay Guillotine!

Oh how we (I, at least) have missed thee!
We welcome thee with open arms,
O beloved head chopper!
Where art thou?

Thou shalt rise again,
For thou are God in my eyes,
And thou shan't be forgotten,
O, sweet Guillotine!
Return and bless us all with gore!

Till then,
We wait for thee in silence...

Yay, drawing and quartering on the public square!!!!

Seriously though, I do agree with you. Ol' Sparky is currently the sole method of execution in Nebraska. Alabama, South Carolina, Florida, and Virgina allow the prisoner to choose between injection and the chair (why the hell should they choose??). In Kentucky and Tennessee the chair is used for crimes that were committed prior to 1998 when the injection method was adopted.

Personally I think we should just use a bullet because it's much cheaper!

We should also take some of the privilege out of prisons. I'm not saying that they should be brutalized and tortured. I think we should reinstate chain-gangs (still being used in some places though controversially), take away cable, and all that other excess junk that they don't need.

Edit: Cherry: Being snotty doesn't make you look any better than anyone else. You must be Canadian.

Many of these answers display revenge not common sense or awareness of the facts about the death penalty. There are plenty of sources where these facts can be found. When your answerers are ready to find them out, they can visit www.deathpenalty.org.
Here is a brief list:
-The death penalty costs much more than life in prison
-The death penalty risks executing innocent people (123 already exonerated) and DNA is available in less than 10% of all homicides.
-The death penalty is not a deterrent. Most killers do not even think they will be caught (if they think at all). Murder rates are higher in states that have the death penalty than in states that do not.
-Life without parole is now on the books in 48 states. It means what it says. Supermax prisons are terrible places to spend the rest of your life. (See any of the MSNBC documentaries about the,)
-The death penalty can be very hard on families of murder victims.
-The death penalty does not apply to the worst of the worst. It applies to defendants with the worst lawyers. When is the last time you heard that a wealthy person was executed in the USA?
-48% of Americans prefer life without parole and 47% prefer the death penalty. Americans are finding out the facts and using common sense, not revenge.

Read about some of the old death sentence punishments. I wrote a paper on them in college.....gruesome, it'll make some nice bedtime reading.

Example....In India, they would hogtie a prisoner, hands and feet behind him, and have an elephane drag him through the streets, basically tearing off the skin. Luckily, for the perp, after they got to to execution spot, they would place the prisoners head on a large block and have the elephant step on it until the head was flattened, putting the prisoner to death.

I never really thought of this but you make alot of sense.....
Lets outlaw the old death jab and get 'sparky' all fired up (pun intended).

Before they go, part of the prep for the electric chair should be a video of the last guy getting it....and lets not tape the eyeballs in the sockets either...let em watch them pop out etc.

This instructional video could be viewed while they are getting the haircut

and while you are outlawing the death juice, could ya speed up the process of getting it what ever other gastly ideas we can come up with.
I was thinking that they could give them lobatomies (sp) and give em aids or inject them with cancer.
least they could contribute back to society

Contrary to popular belief, lethal injection is not painless. The first injection they give them is a paralytic so they won't thrash around from the pain of the second injection.

I think it's sick.
In my opinion, the prisoner who is being executed for murder is being killed. Since when did 2 wrongs make a right?
And, if it was so wrong for the prisoner to have committed such a crime, who decides that it is right, to do the same thing? I think execution is Wrong! I think that if the punishments and living conditions were more harsh in prison, and people actually feared going there, maybe crimes would lessen. Take away the McDonalds, take away TV, cards, computers.. etc. They should be allowed education only, but with text books! Make prison harsh and horrible so that people will weigh the consequences out. Right now, most criminals don't think about the consequences because prison, really isn't That bad of a place to have to be. But if it were such a terrible place, some might think twice before they make their final decision. I also think that guards should be given more rights when fights and breakouts happen.. But in no way ... do I believe that 2 wrongs will ever! make a right! I believe in Justice.. so don't get me wrong! Just because I don't believe in cruelty and the death penalty doesn't make my answer wrong! I'm entitled to my own opinion as well..

How about the courts let the MURDER VICTIM'S family decide how the criminal should be executed. Better yet, how about putting them to death in the exact same fashion they caused death.....Eye for an eye.

You see we have this thing in out bill of rights about cruel and unusual punishments. While as a society we do execute convicted criminals it must be done in a humane fashion. The penalty is death not pain and suffering.
