Perhaps it gives them some semblance of peace?
Feeling thinner than the plump Yanks might just be encouraging to the Brits!
We can be quite irritating with our ,'We are the wealthiest, most influential nation in the world', attitude. So I reckon finding something we are WORSE at is a bit comforting. Jealousy is an ugly beast after all. I say BALDERDASH to the whole bloody, scrawny lot of them.

Interesting link, thank you. America does seem to have a good chunk of folks that are grossly morbidly obese and I haven't seen that anywhere but in America. But in general, Brits seem about the same size as Americans in general.

Fascinating to see Italians are on the bottom of the list down with asian countries (now that is no surprise as they are small thin fine boned people) - how can that be possible with all those mounds of pasta? Every time I eat Italian food I feel as if I've gained 10 lbs!

I'm British and I've never once said that Americans are fat. I have never met ALL Americans so a statement like that would be ridiculous.
Sweeping generalisations once again. And can someone tell me why, when a question such as this is asked, some answers are rude and insulting?
I like all the Americans I have ever met (bar one) and I wouldn't dream of saying hurtful things on here or anywhere else for that matter. And what's all this rubbish about us having bad teeth? I have good teeth so does my husband and my children, in fact everyone I know has good teeth. Something else the media has said that people take as gospel?

I think the real comment here is that white, English-speaking countries are fat:

USA: 30.6%
Britian: 23%
Australia: 21.7%
New Zealand: 20.9%
Canada: 14.3%
Ireland: 13%

We all made the top 15 list for the world's fat-arses.

Must be awful for you not being able to take a joke. Relax. There are always things people of different nationalities say about each other. Just rise above it, or get in a comment of your own. We're all made of the same stuff after all.

Well, we're still fatter then they are. I dunno, it is a bit hypocritical of them, but we all shouldn't be talking how fat we are, or others are--but try to get our nation to be healthier.

It annoys me that the goverment and everyone are saying that our kids are too fat and yet we have soda machines, cantines, and snack stores in our own school where the health food is overpriced and the water is always sold out leaving you with coke or diet pepsi.

Where did the fruit and veggies go? And who decided that pizza was an ideal meal for our nation?

It's not just us Brits - everyone says Americans are obese. And tbh a hell of a lot of them are! And also Americans eat waaaay too much fast food compared to Britain, have you not watched Supersize me??

The point is well taken. I really think it is the result of cheap food that so many have to eat these days, full of all sorts of things that are not good for health or weight control.

Because if they are going to emulate you then they need to know how to avoid the mistakes and improve on the things you do!
That way they can make money by selling the results and research back to you!

How'd those mexicans get so fat? Also brits don't only criticise Americans for being fat we criticise you for everything, because you give us so much to criticise you about. I thought we were limeys in US anyway. And whats this fixation you have about teeth!
