How to identify whether the optical drive is a DVD burner or not?

I have an optical drive which I want to know whether it can burn DVD's. Is there any way to find out how? I tried the hardware properties and could not get any fruitful results.

The hardware should have given you a Model number of the drive

Just enter that model number in a web search and go to one of the resulting links and it should tell you if it is a burner or not

BTW, *IF* it is a burner drive it should have come with burning software
