To adjust for more productive working hours during the daylight. When it gets dark out, our bodies naturally produce Melatonin, which makes us tired. Some people have Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) in places such as Boston it's very common, and the way to treat this type of winter depression is light therapy (lots of sun!). This year, DST is coming early and staying later because our elected officials think it will help conserve energy.

now to help with electricity consumption...way back it was for farmers..gave them the daylight during the day. having lived in a country that did not do daylight savings time...the sun would be up at 430 in the morning and down before 6 at night.

it was created by some politician who wanted to encourage "family time". he said we need more hours of daylight to do so. hence, daylight savings time. not to worry though, there are at least a few states that don't include in this ridiculous "holiday", including Arizona.
