No. The only automatic bids are given to the teams who win their conference tournaments. The rest of the bids are handed out by a committee who decides who the rest of the teams will be.

No but it is usually a good indicator of what teams will be "locks" for the tourney outside of those who win their conference and get automatic invitations. I really can't think of the last time a top 25 team didn't make the NCAA tournament.

Pittsburgh 11. Wisconsin 12. military 13. LSU 14. Miami FL 15. USC sixteen. Mississippi 17. West Virginia 18. Utah 19. Boise State- they does no longer stay to tell the story Bama, Texas, or Florida 20. TCU 21. Cincinnati- Massacred bye Florida throughout the Sugar Bowl 22. BYU 23. Nebraska 24. Texas Tech 25. Oklahoma State i could in basic terms rank TCU or Boise State greater in the event that they performed somebody whose a significant potential and coach that they belong. Boise State had a standard bowl interest, on a similar time as Cincinnati have been given massacred interior the Sugar Bowl. Little communities could be intense ranked in the event that they are able to compete with the huge canines and it each so often happens. A playoff could even coach this element even nevertheless i'm no longer partial to it individually.

There has never been a team in the NCAA history in the top 25 at the end of the season that did not get into the tournament. Not neccesarily, but its a virtual lock.

Nope... but they might as well be, but you are normally good enough to get into the tournament with an at-large bid even if you don't win the tournament... a perfect example of which is Duke.... They lost in there first round of the tournament but they are in the top 25 and have enough quality wins to get them into the tourney

The answer's no. Utah State tied for the 25th spot in the last poll in 2004 and didn't get an invitation. And a team on NCAA probation obviously doesn't get in. UNLV in 93 and 94 was the last team to fall into that category.

To answer your question, NO. Should they be? NO.

Example: Duke. lost 6 of the their past 10. Ranked in the top 25 (somehow #21). They should make a tournament, but that would be the NIT.

No, not automatically, but most of them will get in. If they don't win their conference, they will likely get at-large bids.
