My son has a disability and can't be on his own. I live in Melbourne Australia. We have had access denied from council care. Are there any local parents in the same situation?

I don't know any one in Australia. so I am sorry that I cannot help you. I do know one in the US though. and I wish other people would not be so quick to judge. you state that he has a disability. this is the reason for your question. a lot of people do not read the whole question.

How severe is his disability? You might see if you can talk an after school program into taking him on as a "helper." Of course you will have to pay, but it will help his ego and he might even be great with younger kids.

Here in the states the YMCA is really good about this.

Another angle would be to see if one of his teachers or aides could care for him after school.

The only care I can suggest is that you ahve a place for them to go every day. A school activity, or a family members house. There are no teenage after school care programs here in Michigan where I live. Ask your children's school if they have an after school study program they can go to.

Boys & Girls Clubs. Our daycares and after school care goes up to 6th grade. Other than that, you need to hire a neighbor or someone to look after them if they are older.

Teenagers should be old enough to be trusted at home alone...Mine would die if they had a babysitter...
