Have you ever heard of Flylady ?
They have a routine - BOY do they have a routine for housecleaning and laundry. It all starts with "Baby Steps" and 15 minutes. There is a link in my source section.

The first thing you need to do is declutter. The cause of being disorganized is because everything does not have a home and most times that is because you have too much stuff. When you declutter ask yourself: Do I love it? Do I use it? Is it irreplaceable? If it does not fall into those categories throw it away or donate it. Organizing takes a long time and since you do not have alot of time set a goal to spend 15 minutes decluttering a room a day until it is done and then move onto the next room. The key is to get rid of things that you don't use. For example if you have a family of 4 there is no need to have 20 drinking glasses. The extra glasses are taking up valuable space of where something else could be housed and not laying around on the counter tops.
Good luck!

There could literally be hundreds of good possible answers to this questions. I don't know your situation, but if sorting and organizing are the problem, then labeled containers might help. It is a challenge to be organized even for those of us are born with the gift of being organized, like myself. I have to write things down all the time. And having a place or container for every thing really makes it easy to sort and store. I hope that helps some!
