Unlocked refers to GSM and iDEN phones which use sim cards. Sprint phones are CDMA and don't use sim cards. They can't be unlocked. If anything, they may be able to be "flashed" to work with a different provider. That still may not work. You can still sell it as a Sprint phone, and whoever buys it can use it with Sprint. You'll be stuck with the bill on the phone, not the person that buys it.

You can sell it, but it has to be with someone who has Sprint or is going to get sprint service. CDMA phones (which is what sprint uses) are not able to be used on another provider but the one that they were intended for. Good luck.

If you owe on this phone, wouldn't it be better to pay it off, then sell it instead of trying to pull off a shady deal?

It shouldn't be locked unless it was reported stolen? Once you switch your subscription to another handset, it should be releasable to another number. Unless you have reported it stolen.
