I want to buy a computer program, one of it's System Requirements is for my computer to have 384 MB of RAM. When I install this program, will it eat up all of my RAM? And I no longer can install anything? Or will it only use the RAM when I use the program...thanks.

I need to know this tonight, if anyone knows the answer, thanks for posting it...

It will only use the RAM when running. Other than that it will not.

The application will require around 384 MB of RAM while the program is running along with the standard operating system processes. If you are running any other background processes that aren't part of the operating system, the application will end up using more of the pagefile on the system (disk space used as virtual memory, slower than real memory). The memory for the application will only be used while the program is active.

RAM is used when ever anything on your computer is in use. The more RAM, the more you can run at quicker speeds. I think the average RAM used to be 512 MB of RAM. Once the program is closed, and the computer is shutdown, the RAM will no longer be in use. If you can no longer install anything, that would be because your harddrive would be full.

It will use the ram only when u run the software.
And even while u run it u're gonna be able to install other stuff since it's going to load into your ram and not hard drive space where you install software in the first place.

I can't answer this question unless I know how much RAM you have. But regardless, that program will use that amount when it is running. I suggest having at least 1GB of RAM before you get the program.

edit: actually I am editing my post. Most programs recommend on the box that you should have AT LEAST this much RAM. If you have at least that much RAM or more then go get it!!!!

Yes the program requires that much to run. The program will only use that much when it is running unless it runs all the time like an antivirus. Make sure you have that much ram before buying. "PEACE"

It will generally eat up that much RAM, depending whether it is running and installed completely or not...It can be very feature specific....
And in case more is needed generally ur hard disk can act as a virtual RAM but this will degrade performance.....

If you're buying a new computer, I'd recommend a minimum of 512 MB of RAM, and in reality 1 GB (1024 MB).

Any program only uses memory, aka RAM when it's running.

RAM = Random Access Memeory, meaning the memory is randomly used to store data temporarily.

If that program is not a memory management program than no problem will be created by it.

It will take quite a bit of your RAM, but ONLY when it is running in your memory. So, you needn't worry!
