I think that they do great things for our country because they are well known and have a following.
Trust me, they are not voted in on their status as a star alone.

Maybe because in this day and age (unless we as a people change the rules) it is impossible for a foreigner to win a seat in any major national political race (prohibited by law).
Other than this, I think they actually have some decent skills as far as the political talk- they just have to learn how and when to say certain things. (the art of BS)

Why indeed? Actors are just as qualified as most people. Given that most of what they do is analysis of language and motivations for behavior, they are usually rather logical people.
