I think you would have to crawl into the mind of David Lynch to really get an answwer on that one. Although I was a fan from the beginning, and truly loved the show, I never really understood what I was watching. Just think of it as surreal TV, with a sort of plot that plays out, but pay attention as litttle things mean so much, and if you like it stick with it. Good acting, strange plot twists, interesting black humor. Would you like a donut with that.

It is about an FBI agent who goes to the small town of Twin Peaks to investigate the murder of the prom queen.
It is very sci fi and has some odd dream/drug induced/demon scenes in it that you just aren't sure are real or not.
You have to watch the whole thing to get it - or read Laura's diary. You used to be able to buy it in the bookstores but you'd probably have to do a massive yahoo search for it now.
I could give you major spoilers - but that would ruin the show if you were actually interested in watching it.

Lynch is weird.
On the surface it was about Laura's death and trying to figure out who did it. But I think it was really more about the town and the people in it.

there was some murder, drugs and illicit sex were involved, there was a log lady, like the kid from ed, edd, 'n eddy& his plank.
