Yes, I readily admit I believe in intelligent design, you can say what you please but the point is that is it possible that this idea that we are accidents of nature that just happened can lead people to believe they have nothing to live for if what they put their hope in is wrenched from them?

Interesting, greybamby. Correct me if I'm wrong but you're going with the idea that the two can be reconciled, right? Hmm....

Anything can be a contributing factor,
especially when it comes to suicide.
I think some people feel like a bomb was
dropped when this whole evolution thing
jumped up in their faces. Not to mention,
shook their knees. Most people are easily
led. They need something to believe in.
Whether it be the truth, or just a fairy tale.
They want that comfort zone. If it is suddenly
taken from them, suicide may start to look
a lot more like the answer they need. If
your knees buckle that easily, maybe you
were not standing on faith in the first place.

No, the theory of evolution is not a contributing factor to escalated suicide rates. He allowed evolution to happen the way it did. He just was the spark of life that started everything. Its all part of God's plan.

Re: suicide -- yes, many people operate like lemmings. Cuts down on the affects of over-population. Other act like army ants, killing anything in their path.

Re: evolution. I prefer to think of it as just a description of a mechanism through which God works, not as an affront to any body's ancient scripture.

Re: free will vs determinism.... this problem has been hashed out in philosophy and most religions endlessly. I don't think it can be answered here. Only the Taoists seem to be comfortable with this issue, and they don't subscribe to Judeo-Christian-Muslim beliefs.

Have fun and avoid the lemmings and the ants.

Yes, If a person doen't believe in an afterlife, and their life sucks bigtime, and they don't see any way out.

Of course some people who believe in an afterlife, might kill themselves in the hopes of getting there quicker. Just check out those nuts in the middle east.

But as a Christian, I believe suicide is a sin, so as your last act on earth, you might not get the afterlife you wanted.

Your logic is flawed. Nature has no accidents, it works perfectly well. As a religious guy you shouldn't knock your "designer"'s work.
Why would people kill themselves because of evolution???
Maye you would, because the thought of not having your little theory to cling on to scares you so.
