i am not able to remember things after I read it and that is really affecting my grades. How can i make myself remember things? I just read a section of my Botany book and I have already forgotten it.

I have Botany too and I had the same problem.I got a digital recorder.I still take notes ,read the chapter and highlight things that the professor says that's in that section. Also going to a tutor also helps. Before I forget you can use the recorder on any computer and just listen or download it on your mp3.Good Luck.

I don't mean to sound like I'm making fun, but maybe you don't like botany. People tend to remember things that they are interested in. When someone loves a subject, they focus and concentrate on it, thus making it easier to commit to memory. (Why do you think some people can memorize all kinds of baseball stats?)

Some tricks you can try to reinforce your memories are to read more slowly and keep a note pad next to you as you read. After every paragraph, summarize it on the note pad. The process of putting the ideas into your own words will engage your brain and force it to deal with the subject matter more intently.
Another trick is to talk outloud about what you're reading. Even if you're all by yourself, you can talk it through as you read it. Like the note pad trick, this is another way to force your brain to engage the subject on a deeper level.

Good luck.

Read it and as you're reading it take notes. If you really don't understand something then write it down and ask your teacher the next day. Reading it out loud helps too. I agree with the recording thing. You record yourself as you read it then listen to it and take notes.

Good luck!!!

I always read the material twice and the second time, I start to understand it. I also use flash cards for definitions, it's a great way to get the memory juices going and you can take them anywhere and just go thru them and study.

first of all you need a cell phone. Next you record yourself while you read and read out loud then listen to what you read a couple times and then you'll remember it. IT ALWAYS HELPS ME!!!

Two ways I can think of...

1. Highlight the main points, or write them down. Then review them.

2. Tell someone else about what you read.

God bless.

Read it through first
Then read it again and take notes on it (if you're a kinesthetic learner)
Or read it through and then get a tape recorder and say what it was about (if you're an auditory learner)
