Careful, Clarence, your ignorance is showing. You would be amazed at how many people in your life cut or commit other acts of self harm. This could be a family member, coworker, friend...anybody. But I can almost guarantee you know someone who does it even if you don't know that they do it. And since you don't know that they do it, there goes your argument that it's for attention. Anyway...to the person asking for the cutters out there...if this is a concern beyond mere curiosity there is good news! There has never been a better time to seek help for this. 18 years ago I tried to talk to a counselor about it and the shocked reaction was enough to clam me up for more than the next decade. Now it's being recognized as quite common and there is all sorts of help available. Several people here have already offered their e-mail if you want to talk. Add mine to the list. Good Luck!
Oh, and Clarence? Some of us haven't worn shorts or short skirts since we were children because of the ugly glaring scars that mar our legs. Many of us look absolutely normal to the average Joe because our marks of pain and self loathing are hidden. They are hidden because we didn't want anyone to know. We were ashamed and didn't want the "attention". Some of us are grown functioning adults with children of our own, yet our own mothers have no clue as to the self harming behaviors that have plagued us since before we actually used a razor to shave our legs. I will now be so bold as to speak for all of us and forgive you for your ignorance and arrogance since it is certainly nothing new to us. We love you despite your weakness and find joy in those who have done the same for us.

I must disaree with the person that says this is done for attention. i was once a cutter and I did it because I had a hard time dealing with my emotions. it is called self harm and can be a sign of borderline personality disorder. I really suggest finding other ways to deal with your anger/depression, whatever triggers you to cut yourself. I have been there and judge no one that goes through this situation. I am praying for you. God is real, just believe in him and follow his word he will bring you through any tough situation. Much love from the genchy1. Take care of yourself.

Yes, I cut flowers, the grass, paper and thread. It wouldn't be right to cut anything or anyone else.
