It'd probably be better just to buy a whole new computer. Any computer that has ME will run XP/Vista at a fairly slow pace and it won't be that great of an experience.

PC's that originally shipped with Windows ME range from 700 MHz to 1.0 GHz which is fast enough to run Windows XP if you are just using basic programs like a web browser, e-mail client office suite. When you install XP make sure that you format the hard drive because when one copy of Windows is installed over top of another expecially ME you will get nothing but a dog's breakfast.

Sure, but you'll have to uninstall ME and install XP, don't forget to save all your important documents in a DVD/CD because EVERYTHING wil be erased the second you type 'format C:'!
If you haven't done this before, look for a tutorial on google on how to uninstall windows me/ install windows xp, i'm sure there are plenty!

yes, with a windows XP upgrade version you should have no problem although now you may want to consider vista rather than XP, I think you could still upgrade but I am less sure, still you almost certainly could.

Yes, I have just done this on my computer. I did not lose anything, there were a few warnings about you may need updated drivers for certain equipment. I have found it worth the cost of the upgrade, rather than buying a new computer. I am wary about Vista, it is new and may have a few surprises!!

Depends on your system. You may need more RAM and a bigger Hard Drive and maybe a better GFX Card.
But on the whole yes, it is possible to upgrade from ME to XP (you don't need to uninstall ME, XP will install itself over it).

I'd go with Bill on this, don't forget to save your important files elsewhere before you lose them in formatting!
