Well the reason why Sailor Moon is more popular in the net (although it's less popular even on the net then it use to be) is for the same reason alot of things are popular which they might not have been.
Internet gives people a way to freely express themselves without revealing themselves and it gives people a way to share their interest and ideas more then just in person. The internet connects million of people from all over the world so, it's easier to gather people who have an interst in something that isn't as popular now, through the internet.
In "real life" people often get over fads and move on, or forget about shows and things they had interst in especially when it's not availabe anymore like it use to be (i.e. TV, toys, etc) but some who use the internet to recconect to it, still have interest in it more easier then in real life since you can easily fine people who like/liked it as well and share with them.

Are you talking about the saying "Red moon at night, sailor's delight!" I was just thinking of that the other day. I saw the sky in the morning and it was red and I had to think hard about the saying. And the fact that it had to do with the moon being red and not the sky. The sky really was beautiful and it was worth it just to check it out. I think that when the sky and such turn color it is mainly because of smog and what not in the air, but it sure does look pretty. I know when we had all the fires here in San Diego, Ca. the air was so thick with smoke, but later we had such beautiful sunsets.
I know there is more to it but I can't remember it!
It has to do with the way the weather is suppose to respond while being on the ocean. Err go the sailor's delight thing. Kind of an interesting though, really.
Supposedly if there is a red moon at night the ocean will be calm and it is easier sailing.

Sailormoon is one of the first if not the first breakthrough animes to gain major popularity in the world. The reason probably the manga, but in the U.S., some years ago i remember a big fuss about getting S,SuperS, and Sailor Stars series produced.
I remember it coming on TV in 1995 DIC was dubbing the show(sailormoon,and r series) and somehow sustained its popularity until 2000 because thats when the next two(S and Super S) made its debut on toonami in america.
Sailormoon made cartoon network enough money to purchase the rights to dbz as well as others, thats how popular it sailor moon is.
The SS series was never dubbed for obvious reasons which may also be part of the animes popularity.

Well, in the past Sailor Moon is a very booming anime. The manga is so great, Sailor moon is the pioneer for such another anime/manga (Tokyo Mew2, Wedding Peach, etc).
Sailor Moon has it own story, sexiest manga (in normal rate, not echi or hentai rate).
Everyone loves Sailor Moon. But The anime is suck. Better the anime. And about Neptune and Uranus, they lesbians just in anime. Better read the anime.
And I think till now, people still loves Sailor Moon. The Sailor Moon Live-action (launch in 2000s) get a great applause from their fans.

sailor moon isnt popular anymore it used to be very popular a LONG time ago... I guess ur just seeing a bunch f old web sites the people have made in the past. Sailor moon was my first anime ^_^ ( Actually i think it's almost every american's first anime )

I loved Sailor Moon until I found out Neptune and Uranus are really lesbos, So it's not popular with me anymore.

It is still popular among manga/anime fans, but most of them would never admit it, because of the reason that it is old (I have often seen that people think it is stupid to like animes who aren't brand new.), it is "made for little girls" (Many people who watched it in the 90s are grown up now, and think it would be embarrassing for them to say that they still like "a childrens anime".).

I think it's the interesting story lines, the kick butt action, and just the different things going on, you have to watch a whole season, or the plot line just doesn't make since.
