Whenever I go to live stand up comedy shows or watch it on TV (comedy central/ BET) I never really find myself laughing unless a black man is telling the jokes.

In my personal experience, Black women jokes are 90% dissing black men, and 5% talking about how they need a man, and 5% about bad sex. White comedians usually have long set ups and the punch line involves some lame play on words. And other people (asian etc) feel they have to insult their background or support stereotypes in order to be funny.

Do you agree with me and think it should just be left to us black guys? If not TELL me why not, please. Don't just say you "don't agree".

I say I don't agree with you because that wouldn't be fair. There are some funny white people too and you cannot make humour a racial issue.

But blacks definitely have the market cornered on this one....there is a passion there that whites lack.

I don't know I personally have seen alot of comedy coming from all walks of live-
(A may I add a few many on Q&As too)
Then again Flip Wilson, Richard Preyer and Sammy Davis Jr.
were some of the best laughter I have ever saw.
Yup back in the good old days...

Ps. Flip took Geraldeen Jones with him.
The good real do die to young.
Never ever will we ever see comedy like that again, I'm afraid to say.

Certain comedians are funny to me. Dave Chappelle, Martin Lawrence, George Lopez, Dat Phan, Jamie Foxx, Carlos Mencia, Godfrey, Nema Williams and Lisa Lampanelli along with others no matter the skin tone. I guess it depends on the style that the comedian has.

Well, maybe that's because you can relate to some of the material better since you are black (or at least your avatar is!)
I love some of the stand ups that are black--especially Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle-but what about Steve Martin, Robin Williams, Ellen Degeneres, Steven Wright, etc, etc

Stand up should be only done by those who are good comedians and who are funny. No matter if they're Black, White, Asian, or Hispanic.

i dont think so.....comedy doesnt depend on where a person comes from or what color they are.

but anyway, anybody who does standup comedy is lame. that kind of comedy is play on words..thats all it is. ive seen alot doing it and its just all very stupid. EXCEPT for Jeff Foxworthy and maybe his crew but mostly Jeff cuz the other guys arent really that funny on Blue Collar.
i dunno why this is but Jeff has this edge that noone else does. i guess its cuz i might be part redneck and just dont know it. so it might be an issue on relativity. if you can relate better you probly will think its funny.

Nope--anybody who wants to do it and can succeed should do it. Humor is very cultural, so something that you may think is hysterically funny another person might not laugh at at all. (Eddie Izzard is my favorite stand-up comic, by the way.)

I think stand up should be for those who are really good at it. Doesn't matter your ethnicity.
