At first the threats were small, not doing much damage except popups saying you have been infected by some sort of virus. After a couple of days however, the virus did other things, such as not allowing me to acsess volume control, and now I cannot open any downloading file from then internet, it comes with a notice saying windows internet explorer cannot open this file etc... this also inclueds things as attachments, and anything of the sort. I downloaded previx1 it didn't detect it though, please help I miss my internet!!!!

No one read your question well enough to notice that online help is out of the question. But here is something that doesn't require the internet.
First let an expert take a look at it. You could do great damage to your PC if you don't know what you're doing. Do whatever the expert tells you to. If you're sure it is virus or spyware, and want to have a go at it yourself, buy a few smashing programs like Webroot Spy Sweeper, Spyware Doctor and AVG Antivirus. Remeber, NEVER have two antivirus apps in your PC at the same time. Install the programs you bought. Then run them and clean up the PC. When the internet cannot help, don't hesitate to spend on a good security program CD, or you'll pay a lot more buying a new PC.
I got all these tips from a website. You can visit it after the clean up is done. Install CCleaner from the website to clean up the mess after the battle. Then refer to their Security Starter Kit. Switch to Firefox as it is more secure. You can't afford any more baddie to trickle in.
Have a go at these programs too:
Ad-Aware SE
Spybot-Search & Destroy
Spyware Blaster
WAIT. You say you miss your internet as it doesn't work, then how did you mail this question?

if you cannot download anything to fight the spyware its going to be really difficult. As spyware makes so many changes to system and registry files its almost impossible to get rid of the manually especially if they are rootkits which hide from anti virus software. This usually happens to systems which have only internet explorer on then and when the virus and spyware hijacks internet explorer then the user is helpless. always have an alternate browser with you like firefox to get you out of sticky situations.
1) microsofts online scan should find and remove the virues with you downloading anything http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm
if you still can download anything
click start> click run type in msconfig . uncheck everything there (except your internet ) and then click on services, check the box hide all microsoft services and then uncheck everything which shows up after you check the box only.
after the restart . open internet explorer and click tools >internet options> click on advanced >click restore defaults>click on general > click delete cookies and delete files . click on settings >view objects and delete everything there . then close ie and reopen it and see if you can go online and download some time to save you from reformatting your computer.
if you can get on the net
(4) Download hijackthis
(5) Post the hijackthis log on the hijackthis forum for the hijackthis experts to take a look
6) Install and use firefox while browsing

if u question me setting up AVG r different antivirus utility to eliminate virus is under no circumstances a happy factors.. If as quickly as virus entered your equipment some how some the place may be archives r something on the subject of ur OS archives virus might've carried out something to that archives.. in case you eliminate virus by technique of using some antivirus softwares,it may eliminate the virus yet no longer the harms that the virus did to ur archives r to ur working equipment may be ur FOLDER concepts could've disappeared nor the RUN command on your start up option surprising surprising equipment restart in between ur significant works jointly as ur doing in computing gadget... so which you may stay away from this the superb difficulty is totally formatting your hard disk as quickly as & re-setting up ur working equipment.. it particularly is the superb way works with lots of my acquaintances inclusive of me while v'd an analogous concern...

Well, you can do this, you may do that. You can run this antivirus, that antivirus and finally, the problems will still exist.
I can suggest, restart computer, press F8 multiple times AS SOON AS THE COMPUTER STARTS (BIOS screen) to activate 'Advanced Boot Options' screen. Choose SAFE MODE option. Follow instructions untill you reach the desktop. make a backup of all your important files.
Reinstall OS. You can get help from http://www.windowsreinstall.com

If can download anything, immediately pull up free virus scans and download and run one! A spam killer could not hurt either.
Keep at least the virus scan on your computer at all times!

Backup all your data files. If your problem recently occurred, try doing a system restore to a point before this problem occurred.

If you do not have spyware protection install:
