The exact amount is unknown and as far as the figure 50,000, it seems very high, but the main thing is, who came up with the figure. You have to remember that collecting error coins is only part of coin collecting, a lot of us do not collect such things. I would say a majority of coin collects do not. One reason is there are to many fads. This week it is Washington dollars, a few people get out there and try to make a fast buck. It is true that most have been from the southeast, so I feel that the Atlanta federal reserve bank must have received them from the mint in Philadelphia. The Denver mint seems to be doing a better job of keeping the errors down. It is way to soon to figure out just how rare, the blank edge dollar really is. So in buying one you are taking a chance. It was no news to me, or any other long time collector, that there would be error coins in the Presidential series due to the edge lettering with the use of high speed coining presses. They put edge lettering on the Bust 1/2 dollars and there are a lot of errors there and they used slow presses. If you have money that if lost don't matter then buy one, if things are tight don't.

There's no exact figure because it wasn't caught until it was too late. According to the news, at least 50,000 coins were released to the public.
The price will eventually bottom out because when it was sold, people thought it was one of those rare coins that got through the checking point, so people were over bidding for them. Then it was revealed that it wasn't as rare as people thought it was, so the price dropped. According to the news, the price range will probably be around 40 to 60 bucks.

I read and article that there was about 50,000 of them released out of philly. According to the article they think they are going for about $60-$70 on ebay but should go down to about $50.

I don't know how many have been releases, but I will refuse the coin because "IN GOD WE TRUST" has been omitted.
