ok,i'll give you the extreme version to get my question across.if a man and woman have a baby, and they used to be really fit, really healthy people, but now theyre really fat,and abused their bodies, does the baby get the benefit of the good genes the parents were born with,or does it get fat, unhealthy genes from the condition the parents are in now?not talking substance abuse while pregnant or anything.

(no im not a fat wreck, not that it matters)

ok thanks but before this goes any further, let me clarify.my daughter is still unborn, and we intend to give her the best possible environment.i am asking simply, will my wild days affect her genetically?im not ruined, damn,im just wondering cause i was a super healthy kid and i want that for her,but dazed and confused pretty much sums up my teens and early adulthood.i dont want her born with a marlborough hanging out of her mouth,if you catch my drift.

Ok, I think I follow you on your question. No, your past of partying and such will not affect your child now. It doesn't leave any lasting damage on your DNA. Congrats and I hope that you have a happy, healthy baby!!!

Seems like this question goes down to the basic nature vs. nurture debate.

If one was generally thin their entire life and has family members who are generally thin then the baby has a better chance of being that way as well.
If guy and girl got "fat" later in life because of genes (not because of poor health etc...) then it is likely that child will have predisposition to do the same. But with proper health care could avoid it.

However. If guy and girl are now in bad eating/excercise habits they are likely to pass that on to their child.

It really is a combination of both.

Ah, the good old nature vs nurture debate. The child would have been passed the "good" genes, but is now in the "bad" environment. In the same way that children learn their native language from their parents, they learn their eating habits the same way. If the child can be encouraged to have good eating habits and lots of exercise they will have an easier time staying fit.

It is how the child is raised and what food is given to them and if they get enough physical activity. But here are some genetic theories I learned in my nutrition class:
If no parent is obese the child has a 4% chance of becoming obese
If one parent is obese the child has a 60% chance of becoming obese
If both parents are obese the child has a 90% chance of becoming obese.

There is very little genetically that will cause your child to be fat and unhealthy. It's how you raise the child that will matter. Raise him/her to eat healthy food and do alot of fun outdoor activities instead of video games. It's all up to you. That's why you see alot of big people with matching big children. Not because of genetics, because they teach their kids to be fat and lazy too. It's so sad.

lol, i dont think you have anything to worry bout. my mom and dad were really wild when they were young and even when i was growin up and my dads even an alcoholic and it didnt pass down to me! dont get me wrong, i have experimented and i drink on occasion but i have never been into the drugs and alcohol like my parents were by any means!!! as far as your last question, bout drinkin the night of conception, they say that it can cause problems but honestly i conceived my 2 year old on a "wild" night! i cant even tell you what all his father was on the night he was conceived and we were both drunk!!! my son turned out just fine! i had no problems during my pregnancy and my son turned out fine and hasnt had any problems!!!

It all depends on how the child grows up. Genetics play a strong part in this but environment and upbringing are just as important for the individual child.

Nope, your baby will come out perfectly healthy and all, the only way your child(ren) will get fat is if you keep putting food (like junk food, sodas, cookies, etc) infront of their face once every hour then they'll get fat, other then that, no they wont.

i dont think this will transferred. IF the parents dont change thier bad habbits, then all you will be expecting is an overweight child, with risks of diabetes and many struggles
