I am planning a move late this summer (August-September) to the Denver area with my boyfriend and our two dogs. Taking a trip in early August to see the area, do some interviews, and take a look at some apartments. I was wondering what a good place to stay would be? I want to see the sites of Denver but plan on living outside of Denver (if its cheaper and better for the dogs). Not sure if I should get a hotel in Denver, outside of Denver, or if in Denver....where? Any suggestions for visiting and living would be great!

No my dogs aren't pit bulls (well they are mixes, but they don't look like pit bulls). I know about the unfortunate laws, I am keeping that in mind for the future though because pitties are my favorite and I would love to get one in the future.

I've lived in Colorado for most of my life, though always in the suburbs... never in the city. I'd recommend this:

No reason to stay in the city unless your craving the experience. The Denver Tech Center is about 20 minutes south, much more quiet. Rates should be much more affordable.

Places to consider living: (I recommend Highlands Ranch, Castle Rock, and Centennial)

South Aurora/ Centennial - (south and east of Denver) a new and growing area with a lot of new housing (apts/condos/town-homes/houses)

Littleton - (south of Denver) mixed old and new.

Aurora North - (South of Denver) older and a bit higher crime-wise, though some parts are being revitalised.

Lakewood - (west and south of Denver) similar to Aurora North

Westminster/Arvada - (north of Denver) mixed old with new. Some portions are very crowded, while others can offer some space and quiet.

Highlands Ranch (south and west of Denver) suburbia, but newer and quieter.

Lone Tree (south and west of Denver) small gold-course community. Cute and pricey.

Castle Rock (south of Denver) well outside the city, but houses here are much more affordable than in the city.

You are so lucky. I love Denver and I want to move there eventually. I highly recomend staying in Lakewood. It's just outside of Denver. It's still a really big city though, so I don't know if it would be good for your dogs to live there. I recomend staying at the Sheraton as long as you don't have your dogs with you. It's a great hotel and the beds are so comfy!

Check out the Denver Post online and check the chamber of commerce too. Also, I hope your dogs aren't pitt bulls. There is a law against them within city limits. You'll have to live on the outskirts in a suburb but check their ordinances too because lots of surrounding towns are outlawing them too.
