That would depend on what type of sexism you are talking about. I find it enlightening that everyone that responded assumes you meant male chauvinism or misogyny, which are directed against women only.In truth, both sexes and "deviant" sub-sexes all feel the effects of "sexism".
As a male who was once a massage therapist, I can tell you it was almost impossible for me to run a successful massage business because I was male. Being a truck driver on the other hand was no problem. The reverse is true for females.
Make sure if your teacher just says the subject is "sexism", you don't turn the paper into a women's right project, because you would be only covering about 25% of what "sexism" covers.
Oh.. go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexism if you really want to research this more.

Prior to being a farmer- humans were hunter-gathers-
Men were more often the better hunters, and the women were needed to care for the children- as a result- the physically stronger male took a dominant role in most of the clans (there are some documented exceptions such as some American Indian and African tribes)
That carried on into the farming societies
There was no Religious conspiracy to invent and implement sexism- Religion was built and tailored to support the exising power system of the time (sexism, monarchy, etc)

In olden days men were held to a higher superiority, casung women to be put in small regards. Although laws prevent sexism in work places, physical differneces are also a reason why some people believe women are not equal.

read a book called "Women on the Margins"
sexism is a by product of a weaker sex needing to dominate for innate human reasons. But, behind every great man is a woman making him run i.e his wife or his secretary.
