1. It was a personal thing, nothing to do with music.
2. So what? , i play guitar - i could give a s**t about heroin
3. Jimi died from choking on his own vomit , not heroin - though some people subscribe to a conspiracy theory that Jimi died from choking on someone ELSES vomit.
4. Jim Morrison is not regarded as a "Guitar Great".

Heroin is highly addictive.I cant speak for them why they tried it in the first place. So,good question! I could only speculate and say, maybe the pressures of being an entertainer drove them to use drugs? Earlier musicians such as Hendrix used drugs recreationally, and maybe werent aware of how deadly they can be.

The electric guitar delivers that kind of energy and a good
hit off of some good heroin really plays with the energy in
ways that effect the consciousness of the majority.

They can afford the addiction. At least for a few years until they wind up being 40 years old with false teeth and broke. Then they decide to go to rehab and get fat. That is if they live that long.

Pressure. When you do heroin it takes you to a place where you have all happiness untill your not high anymore or broke. The lead singer of Three Dog Night sold his gold records to a pawn shop to get high. Weird huh.

Here is why:

Makes their face look tired, and constantly 'drunk', which is considered to be 'cool'

Gives them an excuse to act stupid ("oh its the heroin, he wouldnt REALLY do that, silly!)

Last, but definitely not least, it produces the best music and lyrics! All of the artists you mentioned will be remembered for a long time.

This depends on your idea of who a great guitarist is. Maybe you're just the heroin type. :)

You need to get high in order to stay alive... no just joking those people were really rich and there was not anything in this planet that could satisfy them so they started using cocain or whatever...

they did more than just heroin. but it's the rock star life, especially back then. you would think they would be smarter today knowing what we know. but it's the lifestyle.
