OK, so apparently this happens quite a bit, why do we tolerate this? Who can we complain to? Is the Doctor their boss? Or is there a manager? I have decided to never see two doctors ever again because of the girls who work at the front desks

No, and if this happens, tell your doctor.
Yes the doctor is their boss. It is his office, his practice, and he is responsible for the way his patients are being treated. If he does not know there is a problem, he can not take care of the problem. He would not want to lose patients from his practice. You have already stopped seeing two doctors because of rude receptionists. I guarantee you the doctors would want to know why you aren't a patient any longer. Same thing goes at the hospital. If you have a problem with a caregiver or nurse, he is the one to complain to.

From working in this field for a good portion of my life, I happen to know that a lot of docs will hire people who have bad attitudes. I know this seemingly makes no sense, but some docs want really aggressive, no nonsense-type people, who can just get down to business and forget all the frivolities. I am sorry you had a bad experience and I never understood this myself. I have almost always worked behind the scenes in medical transcription, but have had the occasion to answer phones and once in a while mingle with customers at the front desk. Almost all the gals & guys who work these positions have a mean streak. Don't think the docs don't know about it. You should hear some of things they say behind people's backs and they actually talk to the docs about it and have their daily laughs. To this day, I am still shocked by some of the stuff I have heard. This applies to ............ what was said to a patient's face and behind their backs, not nice.
I do the same kind of work I did there, but now I do it at my own home. I hate what goes on in those offices. I am so happy to be able to work at home. Really sorry you had to go through that.
Just the same, if I were you, I would express my displeasure to the doctor or office manager. Maybe next time, if you give them a next time, they will come around & show you some respect.

I'm a pharmacy technician; I deal with nasty receptionists all day long and what gets me is: we're on the same team; we need to help these patients; what's with the attitude? If you can't give each patient 110%, why the heck do you work in healthcare? Ask her that question. You're the patient. You have more power than you think. Nobody likes to lose a patient, and if you make it clear that this person is making your visits uncomfortable to the point where you want to switch doctors, I bet you'll see a change

I believe so. I've never understood why people stay at jobs they appear to hate. The same thing goes for most government employees. They all seem so bitter about being at work. If you hate your job move on, don't go to work and take it out on everyone who depends on you!
