My computer keeps freezing. It will freeze, then at the very top are the words "Not Responding".
I've ran my Anti-virus software, and nothing was found.

I agree with the above answers, but you might also want to determine if you are running too many programs all at once. Many of today's programs, and especially games, use a lot of RAM. Your computer can create virtual memory to allow it to run many progs all at once, but the more you are running, the slower your computer will be.

You can always increase your computer's memory by buying additional memory chips. Or try to turn off the programs that you don't really need. Sometimes I do CtrL-Alt-Delete or go to Start--Run and type services.msc and I manually shut off any programs I don't want. But that can be risky if you don't know what a program is doing, like a system program. In any case, if you don't use a program, shut it off.

You can try to clean up your disk also, throw out useless junk that is taking up memory and defragment the drives. That may not really help speed up your computer much, unless, for example, you are almost down to the bare minimum hard drive memory possible. Check by going to control panel.

Finally, are you sure your computer is running at optimal temperature? The CPU can get really hot and if a fan is underperforming, it will run hotter than normal, slowing down the CPU. Make sure the fan works, make sure the area beneath the laptop or behind the desktop is ventilated. If you have a laptop, you can buy a tablet that cools the laptop underneath. There is also a special silver compound paste that is applied to the CPU, it does a great job in dispersing heat. But these last options should be handled only by a professional, and only if you have CPU cooling issues. There is a program called Motherboard Monitor, designed for Pentiums, that tells you the CPU's temperature. Usually if you run many programs, the CPU will start to heat up, but if the fan is ok it can handle it.

In any case, don't run too many programs/processes/downloads all at once.

After reading all those other answers, it occurred to me that the problem may very well have nothing to do with the OS, viruses, or any of that other nonsense. Simply put, it may very well be a problem similar to what I had some time ago. I was experiencing the same hassles, the only thing I could do was to shut it down and try again later Lo and behold, I decided to get a bigger hard drive one day, I installed it and the problem disappeared. WHY? It turns out that the problem was that the HDD was at fault. A techie told me after testing it, that a capacitor (a thingie that holds a charge for a certain length of time) in the HDD was not functioning and therefore it was overheating and shutting itself down. Solution: Get another HDD, install the OS, install all your backups and/or reinstall any programs or games you want. A lot of work, but then again, a comp. is only a piece of hardware, it can and does break down through no fault of your own. ;-)

Look for adware using Ad-Aware and Spy-bot Search & Destroy. They both provide free utilities. Also, if either your harddrive space or RAM are maxed out you will lose performance. If you have more than 75% of your harddrive full you may want to delete some stuff. If you have a lot of applications running in the background all of the time it will tax your RAM. A slow or over taxed video card can give you problems.

Look at the programs that are running in the background/start up with windows (use msconfig)

Shut down all the unwanted programs.

Scan and remove any spyware/malware using some scanner like spybot or lavasoft

You might also try to restore your computer to an earlier date when it was working properly

Let me guess you have been on Limewire.
Sorry to inform you but you got a bug in your computer, you need to clean the whole thing out and reapply all NECESSARY software.
Only you can prevent viruses by staying off Limewire and sites like that.

1) Maybe your hard disk space is low.
2) Maybe your computer is not up-to-date.
3) I don't think so that it was a virus.
4) Try to send the errors to microsoft, and don't press "Don't send".

Good Luck

You need to clean out your computer, do a little spring cleaning on it. Go ahead and go to your start menu and then accesories, then system tools. Run the disk cleanup first, then go ahead and uninstall any programs you dont use, the go to system tools again and run the disk defrag. :)
