It's called the checks and balances system and the separation of powers. The two coincide b/c the checks and balances prevents one branch from becoming dominate over the other. If Congress makes a law, the Supreme Court has the power to call it unconstitutional and therefore the law dies. The President has the veto power (automatically kill a law). Each Branch has its own way to "check and balance" the other. The Separation of Powers is what it says. It separates the other branches. For instence. The British have their Prime Minister chosen from the legislative branch. So really the Legislative Branch controls the Executive Branch and could really make them do whatever the Prime Minister wants him or her to do. Back then they were lawyers and academics from England
so they wanted to give themselves and their mates a job after they finished in the workforce with more power than they had. So now you get all the has-been and failed lawyers running for some level of government or another.

I suppose they say that the system protects us from one level making a mistake. They say it will get picked up by the next level (senate) will pick up the mistake and return it for amendment before they vote and turn it into law. It all sounds like jobs for the boys and their mates I reckon.

Rule 1 Never, ever trust a politician. You can find numerous examples of them lying to us. Never trust a rabid dog or a politician.

whose thoughts and writings had developed the theory of the separation of powers. Remember that your founding fathers were trying to escape from European tyranny where power had, until relatively recently before the revolution, been in one hand, that of an autocratic monarch.
