I heard recently it wasn't good for the engine to warm up on an angle like that. Is there any truth to this?

What the real problem is with riders riding off with the kickstand down, unless you have a newer bike that when you let the clutch out the engine kills.

My Vulcan will kill if I try and ride off with the stand down.

How else will you warm it up? Are you gonna stand there and hold it up yourself? Or are you saying in comparison to being on a center stand? Either way, the bike will run just fine on the kickstand. It's made to run fine at a much sharper angle than that...like when you're dragging the pegs.

Who told you that??? Its perfectly OK for you to warm your bike using the kickstand. Its not used just to hold the bike up! I've been riding for 4 years now and the bike hasn't shown any differences in warming up via kickstand/rear stand of any sort and rides fine as ever!
I hope the person telling you that aren't trying to sell you into thinking your bike needs it.

Some only come with kickstands to hold them up.
It it wouldn't run ok at an angle, you couldn't ride through the curves.

Absolutely, you can. Don't be discouraged when you don't know the answer to something and have to ask. That is the only way to find out the answer. I have a cool site dedicated to motorcycles, maybe you can come and check it out. www.freewebs.com/paracop35

as long as it's in neutral it's fine. there's no reason it'd harm the engine. whoever told you it would is a dumbass.

Do it, it won't hurt. This person didn't tell you anything else did they, like putting water in your tires.
