I'm just not sure if I get the English degree first then work on a the teaching part or what would work best. I really would just like more info in general. And I'm interested in mainly just the Literature side of things, not so much with the general English language teaching.

It depends upon which state you live in. I receiced a BA with a major in Elementary/Middle School Education, and a Minor in English. In my state, the English license allows you to teach English in grades 6-12. If you are really ambitious, you would continue on and get a Masters with Reading certification. Then you have the option of leaving the classroom and being a school's Literacy Specialist.

In most states if you are getting an early childhood degree it is for all subjects. But you can minor or double major in english so you have a better chance of being hired for an English position. Good luck.

In elementary school you cant really specialize in a particular subject. You will teach a variety. If you do specialize in one particular subject you can be on a curriculum board for that subject but if you want to teach elementary school you will need to be able to teach all. If you want to specialize I recommend teaching Middle School or High School.

I don't think you can do that. I'm pretty sure that if you're doing elementary ed. you have to teach everything. You can specialize in one thing, but you can't teach only that.
