A nice sunny day....eh,well when we aparantly go above aprox 40,000 feet,the sun vanishes,gone,is this the sun that is 4000 times bigger than the earth...? why is it dark in space,does it hide. It shines on the moon,thats how we see it in the night sky,so why so black,bleek there....think.......know the score?

In order to see light we must either look directly at the source of light or we must look at something which is reflecting the light towards us. To put it simply, the Earth's atmosphere reflects sunlight in every direction, which is why we can see the sky during the day. Once you leave the atmosphere there is nothing to reflect the light, so space appears dark. If you are in space, you can still see sun light if you look directly at the sun.

The sun does not vanish!

Light from the sun dissipates or is refracted in the earth's atmosphere.

The farther you travel from the earth's surface the less atmosphere there is to dissipate/refract the sun's light.

In outer space light travels undissipated in a straight line from its source. Without atmosphere to dissipate the light there is little to reflect the light, so you can only see the source or darkness.

Simple explanation. Light is actually invisible. You can't actually see it until it bounces off something (like the walls, the ground, the Moon and even the atmosphere.
