What is the minimum road clearance allowed from the bottom of the chassis to the road in the US; in GB?

Here in the US there are different standards from state to state. Mostly though, chassis to road clearance is not the issue. Things like how far from ground to headlight, or bumper, or in the case of commercial vehicles mudflaps are regulated. Regulated however is not the same as enforced.
