I just started with Firefox last night and like it much better. especially the red underlining that is automatic. It tells you if a word is spelled wrong!

For me - Firefox.

Reasons:

1.) It does what I want it to do.

2.) It is designed in the way I think - ie - what I naturally assume is what gets the results I want.

3.) User selectable extentions - I can ad/subtract/customize the browser to do what I want it to do based on how I use the internet rather than a one-size-fits-all solution meant to make support for the vendor easier. Does the customer work for the vendor or does the vendor work for the customer? Honestly - ask yourself if your actions actually support your opinion.

4.) Its open source so its possible to check to make sure there aren't other things happening I don't want. Not to say there is with IE, but to say that its possible to verify with Firefox but impossible to check with IE.

5.) Most importantly - its an application rather than (like IE) a part of the OS. The biggest source of windows problems is due to the integration of IE into the base OS. I like keeping my browser separate from my base OS so if something happens to a browser session I don't have to worry as much about my operating system.

6.) The integration of IE into the windows OS - this was a business decission rather than a technical decission. As pointed out in point 5, the results since IE 5 have shown themselves repeatedly and consistently with patch over patch over service pack over upgrade over whatever... In the end its all an attempt to plug an unplug able hole made by the very group that created the hole for business reasons in the first place. Again - lets say you buy a Ford car - are you buying it because you want to make the shareholders more money or are you buying it because you want to get a workable automobile for your dollar? Are you working for 'Ford' or is 'Ford' supposed to supply what the ACTUAL demand happens to be?

Personally, I don't give a crap about a businesses market share or profitability. As a customer, I don't care about the return on investment of Microsoft shareholders nor do I care to be conscripted into 'caring' due to 'marketing' departments, CFOs and legal departments that have no idea how a computer actually works.

All I care about as a customer is its usefulness and risk factor. IE doesn't cut the mustard in regard to usefulness/risk factor... hence Firefox.

...just a few, off the top of the head, been in the industry, dealt with the consequences of the IE/Netscape fiasco (as ONE OF MANY example) ...etc.,... ideas from someone who has been dealing with computers - usually Microsoft based since around 1985.

If it was Apple that was on top, everyone would hate Apple. It it was Unix (or as its relevant today, its clone, linux) everyone would hate Bell Labs, Sun Microsystems, and HP.....

Its not about 'right' or 'wrong'. Its about abuse of power. Everything else is ancillary.
