You are really the only one who can answer this question. It's going to come down to which one you are going to enjoy more. If you want to be the best at either of them you are going to have to dedicate time more than just during the season. If you choose cross-country you are going to have to train, and run all the time and it would also be advisable to join track and field during the off season. If you do go that route, you may find other events in track that you also enjoy. When I was in school many of the x-country members also did some of the field events such as high jump, long jump, pole vault in addition to the longer track events.

If you choose volleyball, you will also need to be training in the off season. While there won't be another sport to directly relate it to like Track and Field to x-country, you can look into joining a club team or local league. Or, depending on when you live you can play beach volleyball during the summer.

But, no one can tell you which you should play, you are going to just have to weigh your options and pick which ever one you enjoy more. And, if you decide that maybe you didn't like that one after your freshman year, you can always go out for the other sport the following year.

Really a matter of preference. What are you better at? Which do you have more fun with? If you're more of an independent person and like to "get in the zone" with sports then cross-country would probably be better but even if you are independent volleyball grows on you. I am not much of a group person but I love playing volleyball with my team. If you have little patience you may want to stick with CC too because you do have to rely on teammates for volleyball even if they mess up. But volleyball is definitely worth playing, it's so much fun and so much fun to improve with. Both keep you in shape and both can be challenging so try making a list of your personality and see which sport seems more "you". If you are a freshman in highschool or anything like that and you're considering volleyball, do volleyball because if you're in it from the beginning it's easier to get used to and fit in than if you start later. CC seems to be a little more flexible or at least it is at my school. Have fun =]

cross country all the way!! you get to chill with boys and s and you get used to running and you'll love it even if u suck at running.. the team is like ur family, and you get to eat all you want without gaining a pound! running is the best excercise ever, and it will get u a guaranteed spot on just about every other sport you want to play in any other season.. lets just put it this way, if i didnt do XC, i would've never been in well enough shape to make the waterpolo team.

cross country = A LOTTTTTTT of running... like, when i did it, our "jog" days that we were happy about were 5 mile jogs.. with a warmup always being 1 mile and cool down 1 mile..

so if you dont like to run, dont join xc.
