Think about it in a different way.
Should marijuana be uncriminalized.
There was a time in the US, prior to the Harrison Narcotics act in the early 1900s, where all drugs were legal and the user was responsible for the consequences of the use.
The crime and death associated with non legal drugs is mostly due to the fact that it is illegal. Prohibition never works, check out the Prohibition on alcohol and you will see the parallels.

First of all, what I find so funny is that there are already 20 or so answers to this question. This is obviously a very heated subject!
Well here's what I think. When anyone mentions legalizing pot, everyone assumes that that would mean being able to buy it at the corner gas station like a case of beer or pack of cigs. Or that it would be legal to smoke and drive. Let's think realistically here. If pot were to be legalized, there would be more laws surrounding it. You wouldn't be able to have it in a vehicle with you, or drive under the influence (just like alcohol). The police would come up with roadside tests to tell if a person is stoned. The law would probably only change to being able to be in posession of the drug within your own home or not within a motorized vehicle. I doubt that the government would allow it to be sold in stores, or that you could stand in a parking lot and smoke a j. Public intoxication is an offense(like when someone is causing a disturbance), so I'm sure it would be an offense for public drug influence.
If pot were to be legalized and sold in stores and it was ok to drive under the influence, half the country would revolt. The only way the government would be able to make it ok for all is to have rules for it's use.
However, look how well our drinking laws work. I think it would be great if everyone who smoked pot knew how to be responsible while doing it, but that just isn't the case. If our laws for responsible drinking don't work, why would laws for responsible smoking work? I have nothing against potsmokers, but I don't think it's a good idea to legalize pot, and I don't think it will ever happen either.

From an economic standpoint, making marijuana legal will decrease the problem. This may sound unethical, but if marijuana was legal, dealers wouldn't be risking jail, therefore there would be so many dealers that the price of marijuana would fall. At that point, dealers wouldn't have much incentive to sell drugs since they can't get much profit from it. If no one's selling it, no one will be able to buy it.

Should be as legal as smoking or drinking. It has been proven not to be addictive, well anything can be addictive, washing hands can be an addiction/phobia. eating can be, drinking, stacking blocks just so,,,,,
It is illegal cuase gummit makes $ off it that way. It would be hard to make legal cause it is a weed and grows fast, so no tax could be effectively collected, that is the rub of it.
No tax=illegal.

the government wont legalize it because they make too much offa it right now along with other legal drugs. if they legalized it and taxed it it would bring the price value down so completely-you could go to a grocery store and buy a j from the clerk for small change. they would never do that as a result from jus a form of fun/medication/self exploration. but i believe they should anyways! lol dammet. i want to buy a ****** j from a corner store ....grrr :P

Only one person has ever died from marijuana. And he was elderly. I know people who have smoked it every day for 30 years. After prolonged use in males their sperm count goes way down.
Alcohol is responsible for millions of deaths along with cigarettes. You do the math....
Yes it should be legalized and alcohol and tobacco should be illegal.

This will shock my fans but I think

We spend too dang much money on cops and prisons because of it and it's harmless.
It is absolutely not addicting. Those people have never tried it.

I've never done weed, but I've seen alot who have.
I'd rather be driving next to someone on weed than someone drinking....
Weed is not addicting.. It is a social drug.. But alcohol kills people who are innocent victims and is addicting.
Weed does slow reflexes if you smoke to much but not normally enough to hurt people. Most people who do weed don't travel much while doing it. But people who drink seem to love to drive and kill the people we love...

Though I don't condone it's use, I don't think it should be a criminal matter. Like alcohol it's not okay to use and drive a car, but it's safe (enough) to be used at home. I'd like to see it regulated and taxed.
