what is the average starting salary of a college graduate who did not major in a prominent field, ie accounting, in a city like DC? I just went to a staffing agency and my friend believes that the position for which they are sending me for is severly underpaid for someone with a BA. Most of my friends in NYC are making anywhere from $40-50,000 doing basic paralegal work, and I am coming about $16-21,000 short of that.

Staffing agencies are in a hurry to place you so that they can get their commissions. Salary you quoted is severely below norm unless you majored in something like theater, etc.

Apply for government position where you know the ranges and ratings, promotions levels, etc.

between the failings i might undergo in concepts is that simply by recession the standards of maximum employers have lengthy previous up simply by fact there at the instant are 1000's of extra applicants competing for an identical jobs. So college grads are the two not looking jobs or are settling for much less in terms of sales. it somewhat is nonetheless obtainable to discover an excellent beginning place in spite of if it is going to take longer than it would if the financial device have been greater effective. I additionally think of that the same old beginning sales for a poli sci grad is under $40 3,000; that sales is in all probability basically presented to somebody who certainly gets some form of job in government. i began out at $35,000 approximately 8 years in the past with a bachelor's in advertising, and that replaced into outstanding earlier the 2002 recession.

I hate to tell you this, but Paralegal work is really hard, and it is a thankless, underpaid job. Most paralegals know just as much, if not more, about the research for cases, but don't get the paycheck they deserve becasue they don't have the JD degree. Good luck!
