Al Gore won the 2000 election, but George W Bush won the count.

In actuality, Gore didn't lose the election; it was handed to George Bush by the Supreme Court in a 5-4 vote when the results from Florida came into question as to validity of ballots. Gore won the popular vote, but lost the electoral college when this occurred.

George W. Bush defeated him, after a controversial Supreme Court decision to halt the recount of the ballots in several areas of Florida. Bush won Florida by a margin of 537 votes, giving him a majority in the Electoral College. The Electoral College was 271 to 266, in favour of Bush, the popular vote (which doesn't count) was 48.45% to 47.9%, in favour of Gore.

To put it simply, In U.S. presidential elections, each State is worth a certain amount of seats in the Electoral College. If you gain the simple majority of votes in a State (i.e. more than any single other candidate), you get all the seats. the candidate with the most seats in the Electoral College wins the election.

Hahaha..thats such an innocently naive yet amusing question.

I am from the state of electile dysfunction. Both camps bickered and shouted like morons meanwhile the florida voter got screwed as the supreme court voted GWB.

Note* His little brother Jebby was the Florida governer. How convenient!

Many voted for GWB because Gore was not a viable option at the time. Our country was divided until 9/11. Now there is suspicion that 9/11 could have been an inside job. One just never knows what to think anymore!

George W Bush won in one of the closest and most controversial elections in US history.

It was so close that for some time it looked as Al Gore was going to win. His camp even started celebrating. The world would have been a better place.

Al Gore took the popular vote, meaning that more people wanted him to be president than George Bush. But Bush took the Electoral College vote, which meant that more states wanted him president. There is a LOT of controversy over how the Florida vote went, but there is nothing for it now. Bush has been president for six years, our economy has gone to ****, and thousands upon thousands have died.

The world changed with that election. I consider it to be the beginning of a dark period for the USA, one that we may not come out of for some time.
