Breastfeeding is so beneficial and I strongly urge mothers to nurse for as long as they can and or as long as baby is willing.
I nursed for 13 months and 18 months. I feel I did my babies a world of good by doing it at all. Every 1 day you nurse you increase so many things for baby....ie...health issues, development, brain functions, ....... the list really does go on and on.

I breastfed my first child for 16 months. I worked full time and pumped at work starting at 6 weeks old (this was a bit difficult- I would recommend waiting longer if possible). I plan breastfeed the next one just as long or longer, depending on his interests. The American Association of Pediatrics (I think that's the title) recommends Breastfeeding for at least the first year of life. There are so many benefits!!! Check out LaLeche League for information.

I was breastfed until I was 15 months old.
My daughter is 8 1/2 months old, and is still breastfed (no formula at all)
I will continue to breastfeed her until she decides to quit, whether that be at 18months or 3 years.

my mom said to breastfeed as long as i can. i had no hard time breastfeeding but when i got back to work, i could only breastfeed at night. i could not express milk because it took a long time (about 30 minutes), and so my milk stopped flowing at about 41/2 months. i think that should be enough, the baby got enough antibodies. for non-working moms, id say breastfeed as long there are milk flowing out from your breasts. it's economical and nothing compares to mother's milk on its nutritional content. i had a hard time when i started feeding her formula because i have to prepare milk at night. it takes a longer time and my baby ends up awake waiting for her formula.unlike when i breastfed, i just had to lay on my side and we both slept during breastfeeding sessions.you'll miss breastfeeding when you stop doing so, believe me. it is a very important part of mother-baby bonding.

I am still breastfeeding my son who is 5 months old. Breastfeeding is an amazing and enriching experience for both me and my son. The benefits for breastfeeding that I have read include security for the baby, the breastfeeding sucking action helps their teeth come in properly, breastfed babies are much less likely to be obese. I've also read that breastfed babies get a good supply of vitamins and immunity help from viruses through Mom. I would definitely recommend it for about a year or longer if you want.

I was only able to breastfeed for a total of 45 days thanks to having many things pop up.
Our son was a preemie so he was in the NICU for 17 days. During those 17 days I had to pump, so it was exciting.
Amazingly enough, he didn't get his first COLD until he was 11 months old, and he was at day care!

Well, I was only able to breastfeed (or attempt to) for 11 days. My milk didn't come in hardly and my son was screaming for food. But my mom breastfeed me until I was 18 months old. So, I say do it as long as you can. But not past 2, I think that is a little strange. Your child should not be able to pull it out and eat whenever they want (trust me, I have seen it happen).

I nursed my daughter for 12 months, which is the recommended time for nursing. When I went back to work part time when my daughter was 6 months, I was not able to pump so my daughter did get one bottle a day at daycare.

Only for 3 wks. My daughter was a low-birth weight baby, only 4 1/2 lbs, and she was just too tiny and weak. She tried like a champ, but she'd wear herself out and fall asleep within a few minutes. She wasn't gaining enough weight, and pumping never worked for me.
