Just this week, I needed to do research for a debate if we and/or the government should help the poor. I found many interesting ideas on that subject. And from what I know so far, helping the poor not only helps and straigthens our society, but it also is a way to improve a nation financially and economically. It can work just like the banks function, because for example many financial aids provided by the government to other countries are in a form of a loan, meaning eventually, as the country's status goes up, we're getting something back, which is either the money back or goods. It can be translated into interest as well, because really, by helping the poor, we establish a better relationship, which then, when they are in a better status, they will want to give back to keep the good relationship. Now, on the other hand, helping individuals, either in the country or out, can also be compared to bank system. One can make a profit out of that. If you help a person and lend them money, you can get interest until they are able to pay you back, and then with that money and interest back, you can help another person to better their living, and get interest back from then. It's an on-going cycle. Not only that, but if you help those people in need, then when they become more, they can provide better for their families and kids to go to college, which then, makes the nation better and stronger.

No, you can thank America's Government for that. Maybe Roosevelt and the New Deal and all those darn welfare and Government handout programs. The Government will give you everything you need these days. You're in college and I bet you're on financial aid, right? Maybe scholarships and loans and stuff too.... Even the homeless people have shelters they can go, and food they can eat. Even the criminals get a home and 3 meals a day. Depends on what you think "poor" is though. It seems people in poverty stricken neighborhoods are really materialistic, and if they were poor they couldn't do that. If they were poor food and survival would be the only thing they'd think of.

1. some people do because the bible tells them to
2. some people do because they feel compassion and believe they would like to be helped if they were in that position
3. some people believe it's a matter of justice - to give those people the same opportunity that we enjoyed
4. some do it because they feel if poor people get too desperate they might revolt and make a revolution.
5. it's a tradition
6. because poor people aren't good for our property values or neighborhoods. you can't sell your house for much when there are bums in the gutters out front. keeping that from happening is a reason to help the poor
7. some believe it is not morally right to leave people (or children) without the basic necessities - food, clothing shelter.
8. it feels good to help others

I'm not trying to say this in a mean way, so don't take offense, but I don't even see why you even asking that question. When I took a college course in Human Geography, I realized how amazingly well off we are compared to the rest of the world. We take for granted things we do everyday that many people in the rest of the world have never even seen.
In my opinion, it is required for us to help people who aren't as fortunate as us. If not people in other countries, people in tight situations in the neighborhood

Well, there are a lot of answers for that. I would say that because we are humans, and have feelings towards other people. "Help comes from heaven". Helping others has 2 major benefits. The person you help, and yourself. Have you ever noticed that when you help somebody, you feel great after wards?, we say that whenever we feel bad we should find a way to help somebody. I hope that helped.

There's alot of reason we help them. But the most reasonable answer would be pity. IUf you have been helping the poor, you should know the answer yourself.
