You probably hit the show desktop, right click on the desktop and select show desktop.

try pressing the power button. worked for me. and it probably happened because of a virus you got fom a place like bearshare or a game site

turn on the computer, open the cd drive, put the boot cd that came with your computer, turn of the computer, turn the computer back on and follow the instructions on the screen.

not quite sure what you mean by 'reset desktop'
try the 'system restore' function by microsoft.
