#1-Pujols

There are 3 players in the history of baseball with a BA over .330 an OB% over .400 and a SLG over 600. Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Ted Williams..

Albert Pujols - 6 seasons
BA-332 OB%-419 SLG-629 > And he's the only right handed hitter.

He averages 125 runs scored - 126RBI's - 42 HR and hits .332 and he has worked on his defense to the point he's now one of the top 1st basemen in the game > er and he's YOUNGER than Howard, not the other way around! >Case closed

Pujols has put up some monster numbers since day 1 of his career. However, he's not the only batter putting up huge numbers. You've got Howard, Ortiz, A-Rod, and Beltran putting up some pretty impressive figures also. With that being said, you you gotta look at Johan Santana as the most dominant player in baseball. No other pitcher can even come close to putting up the numbers he does, all the while staying healthy (someone could say his teammate Liriano, or even Jonathan Papelbon for the Sox). Among pitchers, Santana is a giant amongst dwarfs. For those reasons, Johan is the best player in the baseball.

Pujols hands down. He can hit for power and average. he drives in a ton of runs and can steal 10-20 bases a year. He is also a pretty good fielder at first base. Ortiz is a good hitter but doesnt play in the field, Howard will be good but Pujols has already proven so much since the day he has entered the league. Pitching wise it has to be Johan Santana, he is the most dominant pitcher right now and if Liriano didn't get hurt that would have been an amazing 1-2 punch.

I believe the best player in baseball today has got to be Albert Pujols. I know a lot of people will argue with me, and they all have good arguments. However, Pujols delivers a healthy dose of home runs, RBI's, average...even a few stolen bases. Plus, the guy is a consistent year after year performer, who you don't often find on the injury list.

***By the way, I'm not a Cardinals fan.***

The best hitter in the game is Albert Pujols. His 1st six years rank with the best all time. Plus he's a throwback to an earlier era of sluggers who didn't strike out very much. Like Ted Williams & Joe Dimaggio, who never struck out anywhere close to a hundred times in a season, and Willie Mays, who only did it once. And Pujols is more than adequate defensively.

I'm calling it now...Albert Pujols will go down in history as the greatest player ever. So if anyone out there is upset that a cheater and foul human being such as Bonds is on the verge of becoming legendary, fear not. It will only last until Pujols surpasses him and sets the bar higher than anyone can ever hope to reach.

"There's not much we can put that anybody who hasn't been living in the mountains of Tibet doesn't know about this perennial MVP candidate and our cover boy. Pujols is durable, hit for power, hits for average, scores tons of runs, is very consistent-and he even steals a base now and then." - SportingNews' Fantasy Baseball on Albert Pujols best player in the game today

I see a lot of votes in here for Mr. Pujols and he may very well be the best current player and Johan Santana for pitching. But I have not seen one mention of Alfonso Soriano. This guy is a machine. He has to be in the top 3.

I'm going to pick somebody risky. I'll say Ivan Rodriguez. By the end of his career he may go down as the best catcher in major league history for many reasons. He has the record for the most gold gloves for a catcher, he showed last year that he can lead an inexperienced rotation past all expectations and he has hit over .300 for his career. If you are talking about all factors: leadership, fielding ability and hitting when you say "best" then look no further than Ivan Rodriguez.
